dozo!

Jan. 8th, 2009 | 10:23 am

fred and i took leave on friday... to have belated bday celebration for him (supposed to be on 1jan). we went dozo restaurant @ valley point (river valley). www.dozo.com.sg its a jap fusion restaurant.. as u can see from the dishes below haha.
had quite high expectations before going in cuz we read super good reviews abt it. esp when the price isn't exactly very cheap haha. but oh my, valley point is like another siglap centre la! so ulu.

once we entered the restaurant, all the waiters and waitresses greeted us very politely.. felt like some big shot haha. the whole place was a little dark.. with a few private rooms at the side. one of the waiter ushered us right to the end by the window, corner seat, saying it should be the best table / seat of the whole restaurant. haha. how sweet of them. think cuz they noe we have an occassion to celebrate for.. cuz when i called to make the reservation, they specially asked if we hav any special occasion, and they will prepare accordingly. cool service eh? haha. and if u r here for the first time and have totally no idea what to order from the menu, the waiters will give you some time to browse thru the menu before coming forward to give you recommendations.

when i took out my camera to take pictures of the stuff... the waiters came over and offered to help us 2 take photo. haha. very helpful and full of initiative service!

complimentary appetizer! mango sorbet. with bits of ice in it. haha. refreshing and nice!

this is also complimentary.. to occupy us while they prepare our starter. this goes very well with the flower tea that they serve us throughout the meal! these sticks... some r coated with cheese... some coated with spicy powder.. and some r green in colour.. think should be green tea flavoured. very very addictive and special! =)

first course of the 6course meal! the starter: chef's seasonal assorted platter. on the left is smoked salmon, middle is scallop, and right most is foei gras. all tasted damn good. i didnt really like foei gras actually even tho i ate quite a bit in france... but this foei gras is very light and melts instantly in ur mouth!

next course, side dish: gratinated escargots topped with yuzu butter. the cheese tasted very nice, not overpowering. the butter taste made everything tasted fragrant and delicious!

followed by the soup: infusion of cepes mushroom and truffle. the black thingy on the spoon is truffle! haha. tasted quite mushroomy and fred said its a little salty but i dun think so leh. the soup has truffle and mushroom... very rich and tasty! thumbs up! its prob the best soup that we all have ever tasted =)

main course: Beef tenderloin on "pu-ye" and granite hot stone. the beef was served half raw.. we can choose to eat according to our preference as the granite hot stone was still cooking the meat even 5 - 10min after the dish was served! the meat was very juicy and tender.. simply melts in your mouth and it was so fragrant and delicious that we didnt even use the plum sauce served with it. there was "fried spaghetti" too.. where its crispy and unique! haha overall a very very good dish that its super recommended, especially for beef lovers

drinks is another course! i had the iced fruity refresher.. and fred had the iced mallow apple melody. the fruity refresher is truly refreshing! there's fruits like peach and pineapple in it... and its not too sweet or diluted =) fred's is a combination of guava and apple juices... with some flowery fragrance. both of us loved our drinks =)

last course: dessert! freshly baked warm chocolate cake served with ice cream. the choc "lava" flows out when u cut open the cake.. i usually dun really like choc cakes.. but this is good haha. not too sweet, but rich enough. the warm cake plus the cold ice cream... always give a good combination =)

knowing beforehand that it's a bday celebration for fred.. they even prepare a slice of cheesecake with decor and candle for him! haha. excellent service isnt it? =)

overall... a thumbs-up experience due to the excellent service and good food. price is a little steep, as the total bill came to about $94 for both of us (we both got the $39.90++ set). but its worth it, especially when you have sth to celebrate for =) do go try it! just a side note, halfway thru the meal (during the soup course) my contact lenses gave me problems and i was tearing non-stop and couldnt continue eating. one of the waiters noticed that we took very long for the course and came over to check if we had any problems with the course and even offered to change to another soup if we really did not like it. but after he realised that i was tearing and had problems with my lenses (he saw my contacts case and specs on the table) he cracked a joke about fred bullying me and making me cry. haha. but yeah i've read reviews that if ppl have any issues with the course, they will be more than willing to change it to a new dish. impressive~

Our ideals resemble the stars, which illuminate the night.

No one will ever be able to touch them.

But the men who, like the sailors on the ocean, take them for guides, will undoubtedly reach their goal.

it's a long time since i last updated... for the sake of fulfilling my promise to mayi ahha i shall do a quick update..

been busy going for job interviews and my internship work and sch... felt really bad having to keep taking off just to go for interviews or sch stuff... but no choice. last wk went for this 3hr psychologist interview for one of the job interviews.. wahlau.. its simply so long and she asked every single shit of my life ever since i was born. and i swear i hate phone interviews. esp those tt did not inform me beforehand.. or those tt are calling me from overseas. all creating problems for me! urgh.

went to watch vienna boys choir concert yest... tho i watched it in may this yr in vienna haha. very very nice. and its longer in duration and cheaper than what i had in vienna! very entertaining too... worth it =)

today is such a tiring day... presentation + quiz + interview... i wanna sleep........

long long time nv update alr.. kinda lazy haha. life's boring. with most of my focus out of sch.. tho i still have sch modules to tackle with.. n the next 2 wks are gonna be crazy mugging / catching up wks. but it feels good to be meeting up with friends.. like my dear hsbc girls haha.. time spent with them is just so different. then its eating and doing album and applications with my piggy most of the time. and i actually felt so excited when i know i am going to watch wall.e! can u believe it?! haha i havent watched movie in a cinema for a realllly long time (the last time was in warsaw) and its the first time of the year to be watching in sg cinema! haha.

finally completed most of my job applications.. and i do hope i get some news soon.. or else.. will be quite sad case haha. all the numerical and reasoning tests r driving me crazy... but i guess getting used to it will make me be better prepared for future ones =) my part time internship is quite ok so far... nth tt i dread.. just tt i feel really bad being unable to make it for work / school meetings (torn between these 2).

work hard work hard! exchange is over.. and so is the fun..

just came back from china... macau, shenzhen, zhuhai n guangzhou. oh my goodness. met with typhoon signal no. 8 on the last day... so my flight back got cancelled... n we were stuck in the hotel room the whole night cuz nothing was opened and all transportation was stopped. n it was lucky that we managed to get hotel rooms so last minute too.

i dun like rainy weather! makes me miss the weather in europe... tho erratic but at least  most of spring was pleasant. somemore photos to share (after UK):

amsterdam!! haha with the windmills of cuz..
me with the pissing boy statue in brussels
went to climb up the eiffel tower right on the first day when we reached paris! and yes.. we climbed the stairs up haha not taking the elevator ya..
went to toulouse (in southern france) to stay at my uncle's place for 5 days! Weiyee and yujun came to join us too. my quite-good-looking male cousin wasnt in the pic tho haha. oh my aunt is a french.. tts why

french cuisine was really damn nice and had many many courses.. during my week in paris and toulouse i had my best meals ahha and toulouse was such a different and great experience with hills and nature and orchards and small towns around. away from the bustling city and into the quiet and simple countryside lifestyle. very enjoyable experience indeed.

went to watch spanish bull fighting in madrid!! our seats were damn good... had the best view haha even tho it was only 5euros! but oh wells.. its a cruel sport haiz
in a park full of gaudi's works! he's just amazing manz... all the things tt he designed.. made barcelona such an interesting place

well.. we shopped like nobody's business in spain! omg i went into every single zara and mango at least once (esp barcelona i went into each branch at least 3 times haha) and we just kept buying n buying. the sales were crazy and everything was so cheap! thankfully i had my uncle and fred to carry some of my stuff back to singapore.. or else my stuff will surely be overweight!! and the weather in spain was killer manz... so sunny and hot! i became darker even tho i applied sunblock lotion =(

went to watch les miserables musical on the first night in London!
haha and we had the four seasons roast duck that everyone raved about for dinner.. it was quite fatty though.. but it really tasted damn good.. perhaps becuz we didnt have such chi food for soooo long! and i was nearly crying when i saw all the boluo bao and youtiao selling in those pastries shops... though they were of exorbitant prices of cuz... and so i could only see-but-no-eat them...
went for a tour arnd London the 2nd day. this is infront of the buckingham palace!
and of cuz.. the big ben!
went for another tour on the next day.. n here we r in front of the tower of london..

its exam time now.. sigh the sianz part abt exchange.. but its really much better than in sg already cuz im just aiming for a pass.. and considering the fact tt i've skipped so many lessons during term and didnt pay any attention even though im in class.. the effort that i put in now for exam studying is quite minimal already. but.. its the last paper (2 actually) tmr!! then will be playing n enjoying the last few days in warsaw... having last gathering with the asians from my uni.. with my polish buddy n his friends.. etc
